when was the last time you welcomed
deep rest?
For most of us, the answer is…well, it’s hard to remember. That’s why we invite you to a daylong, immersive experience of rest in the foothills of the Cascade mountains.
Join us for gentle practices that nourish the spirit—lighthearted play, warm connection, outdoor movement, and, of course, restorative relaxation.

an invitation to pause
As the world grows ever faster, louder, and more demanding of our attention, we must protect our human right to rest. But what does that even mean?
From our perspective, rest is a practice of noticing. That’s Rest Fest in a nutshell: your chance to slow down and pay attention to the world around and inside you. We’ll move gently in nature, reflect and dream, commune, create. All without judgement or goals of achievement.
You’re invited. To sink into this present, miraculous moment. To seek solace in the wilderness that nourishes and sustains us, find joy in imperfection, expand your sweet and wild soul.

Screens take us out of the present moment in myriad ways. We want this event to be slow, sacred, and offline, which is best accomplished sans phone.
We know some people just don't feel able to release their device(s). If that's you, send us a note and we'll see how we can navigate together.
A note: if emergency reachability is your concern, we'll publish a landline number in advance of the event. Please share with your partner, babysitter, or whomever may need it.

We're doing everything possible to make Rest Fest accessible to all who crave it. Our current pricing reflects our costs: for the facility and food, onsite support, fair pay for teaching artists, materials, and more. We're waiting to hear on a grant from 4Culture that would lower prices AND open space for subsidized/scholarship tickets. If you're interested in the latter, please send an email to anna@pidgepost.com!
-
We sure will! When you sign up, we'll ask for any needs, restrictions, adjustments, etc. Please let us know how we can make Rest Fest comfortable for you.
-
We know that sometimes the pressure to chat/share can induce discomfort or anxiety. For some of us, silence is an important form of rest! At the same time, some thrive off the chance to connect, and feel restored when talking, sharing, and/or making new friends.
That's why we offer the option to participate silently OR "out loud."
Simply indicate your preference during signup knowing you can change your mind day-of (or mid-day!), allowing yourself the deepest and most comfortable form of interaction.
-
Part of our grant request with 4Culture includes paid-for, offsite childcare at The Village Project North Bend. If we don't get that grant, we're still planning to subsidize childcare costs as much as possible. Please indicate that you need/want childcare during signup.
-
If you have them, please bring your yoga mat and a water bottle. We'll provide journals and pens, but if you have your own well-loved journal, please bring that too!
We'll send a more comprehensive list as the event approaches

Rest Fest is not intended as an act of self-care in the commercial, consumptive sense. Our work is based in the science of Positive Psychology (see: UC Berkley's Greater Good Science Center) and focused on tiny, sustainable practices that can be nurtured daily.
Some resources we love, if you want to dive in:
Real Self-Care | Psychiatrist Pooja Lakshmin's book on redefining wellness
How to Do Nothing | Jenny Odell's field guide to resisting the attention economy (Rest Fest giveaway!)
The Idler | Tom Hodgkinson's magazine and academy dedicated to fun, freedom and fulfillment)
The Nap Ministry | Artist and activist Tricia Hersey's work on rest as resistance (including her book, Rest is Resistance!)
Daily Rest Studio | Emmie Rae, yoga instructor and rest advocate, offers gentle ways for doing hard things
